With Opened Bible

The Word of God for this Sunday challenges us. It reveals that true wisdom is a hidden treasure, one that only God can reveal to His children.

In the first reading, the young King Solomon demonstrated great skill. He understood that nothing could be of use to him but wisdom. And it was by fearing God and seeking Him that he could gain access to it. "The beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." (Proverbs 9:10) By asking for wisdom to manage his affairs as king better, Solomon became the image of the Righteous One who placed everything in the Father, the source of all wisdom, namely Jesus Christ.

This wisdom is a treasure hidden from the so-called wise of this world. Only the righteous have access to this treasure, which resembles a rare and precious pearl. Thus, it is by embracing faith in Jesus Christ that this treasure is revealed to us: "This God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God…We have not received the Spirit of the world, but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the things freely given us by God." (1 Corinthians 2:10, 12)

Knowledge of God and acceptance of His divine decrees are the greatest treasure. This treasure has no equal in this world: "Neither coral nor crystal should be thought of; the value of wisdom surpasses pearls." (Job 28:18) By embracing faith and the true word of the gospel, the veil is removed, and the treasure is revealed to us.

Like Solomon and all those whom the Spirit of truth has touched, we are all called to receive the grace of this treasure hidden in the Holy Spirit.
